Sophia’s Rug Storage, Your Precious Rug’s Safe House!
Whether you’re planning a move or just have inherited family heirloom Oriental rugs and can’t use them in your home, we’re here to help! Sophia’s Rugs has perfectly-maintained and protected rug storage to help you rest assured that your hand-knotted investments are safe — just like the way you keep your jewelry at a bank vault.
First, we welcome your rugs with a professional rug cleaning to help them get rid of all dust, dirt, and bug larvae. Next, we completely dry and store your area rug in an air-tight pack. Then we store that rug in perfectly-maintained storage, where humidity, light, temperature, and all the conditions are monitored in real-time. We also check up all the stored rugs frequently to make sure everything is alright.
We provide a periodic evaluation.
We provide a periodic check for the stored rugs. Our inspection process is well worth it, and your area rugs will appreciate it. We unpack, inspect, vacuum, and re-roll your area rugs every quarter to make sure they’re in good shape.
Below we have listed how we prepare and protect the stored rugs:
- Clean the rug thoroughly.
- Keep moths and other insects away from area rugs.
- Securely roll up the rug for storage.
- Protect rugs by wrapping them in a protective package
- Store the rug in a cool, dry environment off the ground.
- Unroll the rug and examine it for signs of probable problems.
You’d be surprised how easily a moth or carpet beetle can sneak into even the tightest of spaces. So when storing your Oriental rug, we make sure it is in some air-tight container, if possible.
- We make sure the rug is completely dry before wrapping and storing.
- We keep the rug clean, dry, and in a safe place.
- We inspect the rug from time to time to make sure everything is ok

Caution!
Do not use mothballs to prevent moth damage in your rugs. These materials have little insect repellent effect, and the odor they give to rugs can be very challenging to remove. Also, do not wrap rugs in newspapers.
Rugs should never be stored when they’re still dirty. Dust can oxidize, making them difficult or impossible to remove. In addition, some soils are more attractive to pests such as moths and carpet beetles.
